Learn with the Worms through in-classroom lessons, workshops, field trips, and more!

Hands-On Learning to Fit Your STEM Curriculum

We love teaching about worms and the important role they play for the health of our planet. Our Learn with the Worms lessons can be taught in the classroom or as part of a field trip to 5Heart Earthworm Farm.

Worm Scientist Class: $50

This 45-minute hands-on learning experience will teach students the important role red worms play in the composting of organic matter and their contributions to plant health. As student scientists they will learn the basics of the worm’s anatomy and identify external body parts through live observation. Suitable for ages 7 and older. Worm coloring and activity sheets included.

In-Classroom Worm Bin Build: $175

Students will create a worm bin for use in the classroom. This low technology method for reducing food waste is also a unique STEM teaching tool. A worm bin requires very little maintenance and will allow students to recycle some of their lunch scraps into worm compost. Students will learn how and what to feed the worms, how to record and track worm feedings, and how to properly maintain the worm bin. All supplies and live worms are included in the workshop fee.

Exploration & Activities: Down on the Farm

Our educational field trips provide classrooms, homeschool students, and community groups with a unique and memorable experience to learn about earthworms, explore our barn, dig around in the worm beds, and take a trip to our composting area! Your group will enjoy being outdoors and connecting with nature on our rural farm. Our worm barn is accessible, equipped with a restroom and hand washing station, and has indoor table seating for up to 30 people. During warmer months, outdoor seating and a picnic area can be arranged.

Field trips on the farm last approximately 1 hour per group. Take-home worksheets, fact sheets, and coloring pages are included. Contact us to learn more!

$3 per person - no charge for children under 5 years of age!

Learn with the Worms Day Camp!

Every summer, we host our 5Heart Day Camp for ages 8-12! Have your kids join us for a day of learning, discovery, and outdoor education where they get to become a worm scientist and get hands-on in nature with the help of our environmental educators. After spending the day with us, they’ll gain a new appreciation for our wiggly friends, composting, and playing in the dirt. We make it fun to Learn with the Worms!

Day camp activities happen indoors and out, rain or shine. Campers receive a Learn with the Worms t-shirt, and snacks and drinks are provided for break times throughout the day. Our day camp runs from 8:30am to 4:00pm. Look for our event announcement on Facebook and on our website as the event grows closer!
